Celebrate the history of Glen Foerd on the Delaware’s cattle and crop farm at the First Annual Glen Foerd Farm Fest. Meet and greet real cows and learn about farm animals at various learning stations. Spend time on the beautiful 18-acre Delaware River estate while enjoying live music, craft show and a farmer’s market. There will even be a pie eating and “kiss the cow” contest. Children will enjoy fun activities throughout the day.

Glen Foerd Farm, which was located on the Bucks County side of the Poquessing Creek, was established in 1919. The farm was nationally recognized for the exceptional quality of its Ayrshire cattle, winning numerous milk output awards. The farm’s motto was “Six World’s Records in Six Years”. The farm also had an extensive crop farm operation, which supplied produce for the residents and servants of the grand riverfront estate.

Glen Foerd on the Delaware is the last remaining riverfront estate in Philadelphia open to the public. Its mission is to connect visitors to the legacy of the estate through programs in the arts, nature and history.

Admission to Glen Foerd Farm Fest is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Cost includes admission to the mansion and grounds. Rain date is November 3rd. For more information call 215-632-5330, or visit glenfoerd.org. Glen Foerd is located at 5001 Grant Ave, at the corner of Milnor Street, Philadelphia, PA 19114. Check us out on Facebook!

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Some of the city’s business partnerships are being called into question? For instance, why is Philadelphia partnering with Anheuser-Busch, Live Nation and Shawn “JAY Z” Carter for the Budweiser Made In America Concert? In fact, to get into Budweiser’s website to read the press release you have to enter your age and be over 21.

Now, Philadelphia has announced an association with a corporation declared to be an illegal monopoly by the Department Of Justice — Microsoft.

The City of Philadelphia was named a Showcase City last week as a part of Microsoft Corporation CityNext, a global initiative to empower cities, businesses and citizens to re-imagine their futures and cultivate vibrant communities. As a Showcase City, Philadelphia will receive at least three years of priority attention and support from Microsoft, including the Microsoft Partner Network of more than 430,000 technology experts, to help the City accelerate its ability to adopt innovative technologies.

“In today’s world, technology is developing faster and faster and with broader purposes. This partnership with Microsoft will better enable us to access the latest technology solutions and resources to leverage innovative practices to meet our Administration goals,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “I want to thank Adel Ebeid, our Chief Innovation Officer, for his dedicated leadership that made this opportunity possible. I also want to thank Microsoft for seeing Philadelphia’s innovative spirit and selecting us as a Showcase City.”

Initial brainstorming sessions between City officials and Microsoft Corp. Senior Executives have focused potential support areas, including:

* Assisting the City to establish a ‘municipal innovation lab’;
* Proofing the City’s concept for the creation of an office-of-the-future to streamline service delivery and improve workforce productivity;
* Providing technical support for hack-a-thons and developer camps;
* Awarding a software grant to a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education non-profit; and
* Creating a technical program to support minority students.

The City of Philadelphia was one of thirteen cities selected by the CityNext initiative and the only North American city.

Mayor Michael A. Nutter and the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) announced new initiatives for demolition sites and contractors, including new standards for demolition permit issuance and demolition site inspection, new internal audit processes, and recommendations for code and regulatory changes, all designed to ensure the safety of private demolition sites throughout the City of Philadelphia.

“The City and the Department of Licenses and Inspections are dedicated to building and construction safety and
to the safety of all of citizens of the City of Philadelphia,” said Mayor Nutter. “After the tragic events of this
week, it is necessary to implement the same heightened controls on private demolition activity that we have on
public demolitions to ensure continued safety.”

The new initiatives place additional requirements on demolition contractors and contain specific penalties for
contractors who violate these requirements. “The Department’s heightened permitting, inspection, and review requirements will ensure that all private demolition sites are safe for adjacent properties, pedestrians, and site workers,” said Department of Licenses and Inspections Commissioner Carlton Williams.
