WEST CHESTER, PA — On May 25, 2013, protests against Monsanto were held throughout the nation including several locations in the Delaware Valley. Consumers are concerned about the company responsible for making Agent Orange continuing to expose citizens to the harmful effects of their experiments on humans. The pesticide Round Up is speculated to be behind the bee colony collapse. The company’s attempt to create a monopoly over seeds through GMO patents was one of the crowds gravest concerns.

Have you always admired those lovely pots of flowers at public gardens or nurseries? Want to learn how to create them for your own backyard patio? This workshop will teach you the basic techniques and design considerations to produce beautiful ornamental container plantings. This is a hands-on class, so bring your gardening gloves and a container to plant and take home. Please – no containers larger than 10 inches in diameter and height, with drainage hose in the base.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Mummers organization says, ” The Philadelphia Mummers Parade features unique costumes, music, and pageantry. Crowds line Broad St., from South Philadelphia straight through Center City. The climax of the parade takes place at City Hall and the PA Convention Center where the official judging takes place.

The parade itself is one of the longest running traditions in the country. The parade began in 1900 as an official event for the city, however the parade has been going on since the 1800’s as a way to celebrate the New Year. The parade itself is divided into five divisions.”

When: New Year’s Day, January 1, 2013 starting at 10 a.m.
Where: The Parade marches north up Broad Street to JFK Boulevard.
