“Celebration of Conflict” (Transforming How our Community deals with Difficulty) will be the topic on which Gerald W. Rhoades will share, Saturday, November 15th beginning at 7:00 pm at the coffeehouse of Ambler Church of the Brethren. Gerald was pastor of a Church of the Brethren on the West Side of Chicago and has been Community Minister in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg for 30 years. Gerald is now retired and volunteering with the national organization, On Earth Peace, promoting healthy conflict resolution.

He and middle school youth have developed training to help youth learn to resolve conflict in ways that lead to healthy outcomes, called Agape-Satyagraha Training. (“Agape” is a Greek word meaning “unselfish love” and “Satyagraha” is a Sanskrit word used by Mahatma Gandhi meaning “truth force”.) In his work with conflict resolution, Gerald has learned that conflict is not something to avoid but something that can lead to a better life if handled well. Come and explore this idea with him.

There are also plans for music to be provided by Ambler Music Academy, which is based at the church. The church is located at 351 W Butler Pike, Ambler, PA. The building is 1 block west of Bethlehem and Butler Pike. It is situated where Butler Avenue intersects with Rosemont Avenue. Parking is behind the building in the church lot. For more information please call the church at (215) 646-1190. Refreshments will be served and the event is free. Donations are appreciated.

Pastor Ficken was hospitalized after worship on April 7 and had emergency gastro-intestinal surgery on April 8. After the initial period of recovery at Pennsylvania Hospital, she was discharged to her home on April 16. With in-home care services, she is continuing her recovery there. Given this circumstance, she has been unable to provide her thoughtful monthly letter for this publication. We will share news of significant steps in her recovery via the e-mail notification network. She wants us to know of her deep gratitude for all the prayers offered on her behalf, and for the phone calls, notes and visits during this stressful time. She has been touched by our concern. Please keep our pastor in your prayers! Ed.

NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING
SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2013
The congregation’s Spring Annual Meeting will be convened following worship on Sunday, June 2. SUNDAY SCHOOL CLOSES YEAR WITH PICNIC
At worship on Sunday, June 16, we recognize the educational ministry of our congregation’s Sunday School, and, following worship, in place of the typical refreshments, we enjoy the annual Sunday School picnic on the church property. Chef Michael Schardt wields his grill magic with hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausage. Volunteers bring salads, side dishes, and desserts.
