December 6, 2014 the annual Phoenixville FIrebird Festival will take place.

The parade starts at Bank Street (right across from the Colonial Theatre) at 7:30 with drummers, dancers and puppeteers. Who all will be there is still an unknown, but that’s where improvisation comes in very handy. It will be a mixed group, which can be good, if we keep changing who takes the lead. Its about a 20 minutes walk up to the bird site (0.88 mile). It might sound long, but last year we had a lot of fun with it in snowy weather. The stage will be mic’ed this year for the drumming.

“Celebration of Conflict” (Transforming How our Community deals with Difficulty) will be the topic on which Gerald W. Rhoades will share, Saturday, November 15th beginning at 7:00 pm at the coffeehouse of Ambler Church of the Brethren. Gerald was pastor of a Church of the Brethren on the West Side of Chicago and has been Community Minister in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg for 30 years. Gerald is now retired and volunteering with the national organization, On Earth Peace, promoting healthy conflict resolution.

He and middle school youth have developed training to help youth learn to resolve conflict in ways that lead to healthy outcomes, called Agape-Satyagraha Training. (“Agape” is a Greek word meaning “unselfish love” and “Satyagraha” is a Sanskrit word used by Mahatma Gandhi meaning “truth force”.) In his work with conflict resolution, Gerald has learned that conflict is not something to avoid but something that can lead to a better life if handled well. Come and explore this idea with him.

There are also plans for music to be provided by Ambler Music Academy, which is based at the church. The church is located at 351 W Butler Pike, Ambler, PA. The building is 1 block west of Bethlehem and Butler Pike. It is situated where Butler Avenue intersects with Rosemont Avenue. Parking is behind the building in the church lot. For more information please call the church at (215) 646-1190. Refreshments will be served and the event is free. Donations are appreciated.
