Attorney General Kathleen Kane

STATEMENT OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY RISA VETRI FERMAN ON THE INVESTIGATION OF ATTORNEY GENERAL KATHLEEN KANE

Now that the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has determined that Supervising Judge of the
Thirty-Fifth Statewide Investigating Grand Jury, the Honorable William R. Carpenter, was
authorized by law to appoint Special Prosecutor Thomas Carluccio, Esquire, to investigate an
alleged breach of grand jury secrecy, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office will
review Mr. Carluccio’s report relating to Attorney General Kathleen Kane and the voluminous
information gathered by the Thirty-Fifth Statewide Investigating Grand Jury. As with every
matter considered by the District Attorney’s Office, this referral made to the District
Attorney from a non law enforcement outside entity will be carefully and thoroughly
reviewed in a manner that reflects the District Attorney’s commitment to fairness, integrity
and justice. Should further investigation be warranted, the District Attorney’s Office and
Detective Bureau will undertake such independent investigation as necessary. Upon the
conclusion of the law enforcement investigation, the District Attorney’s Office will review the
applicable laws and make determinations as to whether criminal charges are warranted
against any individual.
